MIN 710 (M) Amendment 1 written and digital assessment dates: Deck and Engineer Officers

This notice sets out the assessment dates for Merchant Navy Certificates of Competency (CoCs) from May 2026 until the end of the 2026/2027 academic year.

MIN 710 Amendment 1 replaces MIN 710 (M+F) Written Examination Dates: Deck and Engineer Officers (Merchant Navy) from 10 April 2026.

This notice expires 31 July 2027.

Introduction

Annexes 1 and 2 to this note set out the schedule for assessments for CoCs to be held from May 2026 until the end of the 2026/2027 academic year.

The dates have been arranged following consultation with various representative organisations of the Shipping Industry. The assessments are administered by Qualifications Scotland and the International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI), on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and are held at their assessment centres.

  • Annex 1 sets out the schedule of Deck Officer assessments.

  • Annex 2 sets out the schedule of Engineer Officer assessments.

The following assessments are administered by IAMI:

  • Officer of the Watch Unlimited MCA digital assessment (operational) – Navigation, stability and operations
  • Chief Mate/Master Unlimited MCA digital assessment (management) – Navigation, stability and structure
  • All assessments related to Officer in charge of an engineering watch (STCW Regulation III/1)

These assessments relate to the following Merchant Navy CoCs, issued under the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping 1978 (STCW).

These CoCs are:

  1. 1. Deck Department

    1. • Officer in charge of a navigational watch unlimited (STCW Regulation II/1)
    2. • Chief Mate unlimited (STCW Regulation II/2 )
    3. • Master unlimited (STCW Regulation II/2)
    4. • Officer in charge of a navigational watch - under 500 Gross Tonnage (GT), near coastal (STCW Regulation II/3)
    5. • Chief Mate - under 3000 GT, near coastal (STCW Regulation II/2)
  2. 2. Engine Department

    1. • Officer in charge of an engineering watch (STCW Regulation III/1)
    2. • Second engineer officer <3000 kW (STCW Regulation III/3)
    3. • Second engineer officer unlimited (STCW Regulation III/2)
    4. • Chief engineer officer unlimited (STCW Regulation III/2)
